The Milton Prison project was the largest building construction project built in the South Island in one single stage. (Other projects have been larger, but staged.)
In a joint venture arrangement, Lunds undertook the construction roles of Zone 4 buildings 30, 32 and 34. Lunds were responsible for Site Management, methodology and providing major plant.
The construction of this zone was the biggest single parcel allocated to a construction team for this overall project. The construction consisted of over 2500 precast concrete panels which Lunds managed with a specially developed Quality Assurance system.
Lund South Site Manager, Ron Simpson was the backbone to the success of this project and the respect he and the Lund team had from all those involved was a major factor in the success of this zone, largely regarded as the best managed zone by Hawkins and the Department of Corrections.
